Female soccer stars like Abby Wambach and Mia Hamm are speaking up for a Nebraska girl whose soccer team was disqualified from a tournament this weekend because her short hair makes her look like a boy. “Don’t EVER let anyone tell you that you aren’t perfect just as you are,” Wambach tweeted Monday about 8-year-old Mili Hernandez, who reportedly plays on a team full of 11-year-olds because she’s such a star. “I won four championships with short hair.” Wambach later stated she’d be personally contacting tournament organizers, while Hamm tweeted that she’ll host Mili at one of her upcoming soccer camps. Meanwhile, Mili’s father said this weekend about the disqualification, “She was crying after they told us.” Tournament organizers have since apologized for disqualifying Mili, saying a typo on the team roster misidentified her as a boy.
