WET NOSE WEDNESDAY

This sweet soul is Fallon, loving referred to as the Polar Bear at his foster home. Fallon arrived in shelter care back in January 2022. In that time, he has come a long way! When Fallon first arrived, he would panic, cower, or hide, desperate to escape human contact. His caretakers could not even put a collar on him or attach a leash he was so afraid of everyone and everything!

After a few months with very little progress, we decided to try him on an anti-anxiety medication called Fluoxetine. Finally, his caretakers started to see slow but steady improvement. Fallon then found a foster family who continued to work with him. Now he can have collars put on and taken off, get leashed for walks, and just recently has even earned his off-leash privileges on his foster families’ private walking trails with all the other dogs in his foster home.

True to his Pyrenees (or similar) livestock guardian breed heritage this three-year-old boy loves to patrol the large fenced-in backyard and keep his foster family alerted to everything going on in their semi-rural community. He is very quick to sound the alarm and make sure everyone knows he is there and alert his people to any person or animal that enters their area. For this reason, we believe his ideal home would also be in a rural or semi-rural environment or a home that has very patient neighbours who won’t be bothered by his vocal nature.

Fallon is food motivated once he feels comfortable, which is a great tool when assessing his stress levels. He loves playing with doggy toys and lounging in the sun after a good wrestling session. Fallon is currently taking Fluoxetine a prescription anti-anxiety medication, that he will likely require for life. However, this medication only costs ~$35/mth.

Fallon is in foster care so we encourage interested adopters to submit applications through our website – www.novascotiaspca.ca/dog-adoption-application/ Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted to set up an appointment to meet Fallon.
