The #BettyWhiteChallenge is sweeping the internet.

The virtual challenge will be held on January 17th, the day the late comedy icon would have turned 100 years old. The social media challenge, asking people to donate $5 to animal shelters in honour of her birthday, has gone viral, with many local shelters already receiving donations in her name.

Betty White was a pet enthusiast and animal welfare advocate who worked with many organizations, including the African Wildlife Foundation, the Greater Los Angels Zoo Commission, The Morris Animal Foundation and the SPCALA.

To participate in the #BettyWhiteChallenge click here or donate to the Nova Scotia SPCA by texting ‘SPCA’ to the number 4-10-10
