Tensions have been high the last couple of years, and with the holidays around the corner, this can be a particularly stressful time when gathering with families. Given all that we have been through and the time we’ve spent apart, it’s very normal to find it a bit overwhelming. Getting some time to de-stress is important before starting the new year.

These are some of our favourite ways to detox from holiday stress.

  1. Plan out your detox- Set yourself up for success by planning what you will do with your time away from everyone. Is there a book you have been putting off reading? Is there something new you’ve always wanted to try? Here’s your chance to do it! TOP TIP: DO NOT FILL YOUR TIME WITH WORK! Work does not count!
  2. Take a social media break- Canadians spent an average of one hour and 46 minutes per day on social media and more than six hours on the internet in general. This time of year is perfect to step back and put the phone down to help clear your mind.
  3. Practice meditation- Meditation is a great way to manage stress and can help you be more mindful. There are some popular videos and apps to help get you started. Ask Nicolle about her favourite meditation videos!
  4. Let go of grudges- Holding on to a resentment allows someone to live rent-free in your head. It’s ok to process your feelings and move forward.
  5. Play your favourite tunes!! Music is effective for relaxation and stress management. Turn the volume up and play JACK wherever you go!
