The 2017 Juno Awards took place Sunday April 2nd, celebrating all the talent Canadian musicians have to offer!

These are our favourite moments from the night!

Comedian Russell Peters and music icon Bryan Adams opened the show, admitting they were just filling in for Michael Buble (who’s at home with his son who has been battling cancer). The unlikely duo would have pulled off a lighthearted, comedic welcoming to Canada’s music night (if it weren’t for some controversial jokes make by Russell Peters).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau were welcomed as the “hottest couple in world politics” by Bryan Adams. The political power couple looked back on the musical genius of Leonard Cohen, and introduced Feist to the stage to perform in his honour.

Feist performed a moving and emotional tribute to the late Leonard Cohen (who posthumously won ‘Album of the Year’).

Sarah McLachlan was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, having sold over 30 million albums, garnered international acclaim and many awards during her time in the music industry. She made an inspirational speech at the Juno Awards, saying “We Canadians are far from perfect but we have so much to offer the world.”

‘Songwriter of the Year’ was awarded to Gord Downie, who had the entire audience on their feet during his acceptance speech.

And there was no point in sitting down, as this was followed up by The Tragically Hip taking home ‘Group of the Year’! Things got a little touchy when The Hip went to make their acceptance speech and were ‘played off’ stage!

The evening concluded in the most Canadian way ever, with a “Summer of 69” sing-along including Bryan Adams, Billy Talent, Sarah McLachlan, Alessia Cara and The Strumbellas!

The 2018 Canadian Juno Awards will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
